Pelikan 400 Fountain Pens 1950 -1963
The Pelikan 400 series of fountain pens was first introduced to the market in 1950 and is still one of the most successful models ever produced by the company based in Hannover, Germany. Made from celluloid, noted for its simplicity, durability, very efficient piston filler and its iconic and recognisable green stripe and brown tortoiseshell designs.The pens measure 12.6 cm in length and fitted with 14Ct gold nibs, ebonite feeds and can be found with a wide range of nib options.
The Pelikan 400 series comprised of mainly two models, the 400 and the 400N. There is also a 400NN, which was a transitional model only made for approximately one year, from December of 1955 to 1956.The 400N is slightly longer than the 400 due to a more rounded and elongated piston knob in addition to a slightly longer cap.
